How to Get Here

Getting here is easy. From San José you can either take a bus here, rent a car and drive here, or fly to Limón and then either take a bus here or rent a car and drive here.

Driving

You can rent a car in San José. From San Jose take the Guapiles Highway (HWY 32) to Limon. You will pass the Braulio Carrillo National Park drive through the beautiful cloud forest and the Rainforest Aerial Tram. Continue driving through Guapiles, Siquirres and Matina. Just before arriving downtown Limon you will see the Maxi Bodega supermarket on the left. Continue on that road for approximately 1 kilometer to the sign on your right for Cahuita/Puerto Viejo. Turn right (you are now on Hwy 23) and continue on this road along the palm fringed scenic coastline. Then just follow the signs to Cahuita, Puerto Vargas and Puerto Viejo. The drive will take approximately 4 hours depending on road conditions and weather. Contact us for a discount on car rental rates.

By Bus

You can take the MEPE Bus Line from San Jose to Puerto Viejo. The buses are comfortable and inexpensive. There are four direct buses from San Jose to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca per day. Direct buses to Puerto Viejo from San Jose leave from the Caribbean bus terminal (Gran Terminal del Caribe) at 6 am, 10 am, 12 Noon, 2 pm and 4 pm. It takes about 4 hours to reach Puerto Viejo.
